Understanding and coping with bereavement

Though we are alive, we know that we shall die. That is another fact of life.

The living know that they shall die. Ecclesiastes 9:5

Life began with God, at the time of Creation, and no scientist, however brilliant, can make life. It comes only from God. God is immortal. He has life forever, but He breathed that life into us at the beginning. We are called mortal beings, which means that we are given that life for a certain period and then we die. When we are alive, we breathe, we grow, we move, we think, we eat and drink, we have a conscience, reason and intellectual functioning, and we have a strong desire to preserve that life. As human beings, we were hand-crafted by God Himself, not just spoken into life. We are special people.

Unfortunately because we know that we shall die and we see others die, there is a fear in us, that can reach morbid levels; life itself can turn into a slavery to that fear. Understanding life and death in God’s way can ease those fears and bring peace.

The question is asked frequently today, just as it was in Bible times -

But man dieth and wasteth away; yea, man giveth up the ghost and where is he?
If a man die, shall he live again. Job 14:10,14.
