IF A MAN DIE, SHALL HE LIVE AGAIN?

Here is a summary of what the Bible teaches about death.
When we die, we stop breathing, and we go to the long sleep in the place where our remains are laid to rest.
There is no entity called a soul or a spirit that is separate from ‘us’. We are a unit, death brings the end to the whole unit.
The righteous do not go to heaven when they die.
Sinners do not go to hell when they die.
All people of all ages, righteous and wicked, rich and poor, remain asleep. Sleep is God’s way of describing death.

FOR HOW LONG DO WE SLEEP? UNTIL WHEN?
If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. Thou shalt call and I will answer. Job 14:14

Death seems so final and we long to know what is beyond the last breath. Is there anything else, and can we be sure what? There are three important facts in this verse. Here are those 3 facts:
  • We will wait in the grave for an appointed time.
  • God will call to those who are sleeping and they will answer.
  • They will be raised from the dead and they will be changed.
The Bible gives a great deal more information about these three points.
1. Waiting during our appointed time.
God spoke to the beloved prophet Daniel of this time. He said to him, ‘But go thou thy way till the end be, for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.’ Daniel 12:13
Job also knew of this rest and waiting time. For he said, ‘All the days of my appointed time will I wait.’ Job 14:14
During this waiting time, the dead are all in a land of dark forgetfulness. ( Psalm 88:12.) All the thoughts of the mind are stilled; there is no more praise for God, there is no bitterness or hatred for events that have happened in sad lives. Our loved ones do not come back to guide us and give comfort.

Neither have they any more a portion of anything that is done under the sun.’ Ecclesiastes 9:5,6.

Jesus told us that He will care for us Himself. He is the Comforter, and the Holy Spirit took on the role as another Comforter, when Jesus returned to heaven. Jesus also said, ‘I am the way.’ It is the Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth, and show us what we should do. Those whom we have lost are quietly sleeping for the duration of their appointed time. Their breath has returned to God who gave it.
His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth, in that very day his thoughts perish.’ Psalm 146:4
‘But man dieth and wasteth away, yea, man giveth up the ghost and where is he?’ Job 14:10.
During this time, the appointed time that we wait, we sleep in the
