Talking of the vine and the branches Jesus said of the branch that remains not in the vine (those who have turned away from Him) that they will be gathered up and burned.
If a man abide not in Me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered, and men gather them and cast them into the fire, and they are burned, John 15:6
Here Jesus is giving more detail about the same things.
Whose fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the garner; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. (meaning no human can, or is able to put it out) Matthew 3:12
Note that the chaff will be ‘burned up’. If something is burned up, we know it is gone completely. So the fire will be one that no one can put out. It will do its work completely, but it is a work that will be finished.

The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
The Son of man shall send forth His angels, and they shall gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:38-42

Note that does not say the anguish is forever. It is a fact that there will be a reaction to the destructive fire but, as with any fire, it will go out and all will be ended.
When will this happen?
It will be at the end of the world - not just after death. There will be a conflagration started by God with fire and brimstone to cleanse the world. It is not already burning somewhere now. It comes after the harvest, when the wheat is safely gathered in to the heavenly garners. It is then that the chaff and the weeds are burned up and destroyed leaving the earth clean.

Fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. Revelation 20:9
And whosoever was not found in the Lamb’s book of life as cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:15
This is the second death.
Revelation 20:14.
(They are all give a further short period of life before dying for good so that they can acknowledge God and His justice and rightness.
‘That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, and that every tongue should confess the Jesus Christ is Lord.’
Phil 2:10,11.)

and murderers and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Revelation 21:8
For this they were willingly ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old and the earth standing out of the water and in the water whereby the
