A new Bible for a new spirituality
In the early days of spiritualism, it was predicted that ‘more authentic Biblical records will be found’ that will give more evidence of the ‘original statements of the Master Jesus.’ This too, has happened with the documents found at Nag Hammadi, Egypt, 1945. ‘A new Bible for a new spirituality’ is the title of a chapter of Peter Jones book, Spirit Wars. The Bible, as we know it, is seen to be the document of a dying social and religious structure. It is viewed as writings to discourage independent thought – that is, it quenches the supposed divine spark within each of us. |
An Asian feminist theologian, speaking at a conference about the Nag Hammadi Gnostic texts, said these should now be accepted as sacred canon, as Asians who already believe that each person has a light in them, the ‘divine spark’ (her words), would readily find such Christian teaching attractive.
What are these new documents? The ‘Gospel of Thomas,’ has now been printed alongside Matthew, Mark, Luke and John as a single volume. The ‘Acts of Paul and Thecla’ is considered appropriate for modern Christianity as it presents a simpler, less hierarchical Christianity. |

The Apocryphon of James, the Dialogue of the Saviour, and the Gospel of Mary are just a selection of the new sacred books recommended by the new Christianity.
There have been introductory efforts with the modern versions to destabilise trust in the Bible we commonly know and use. In the New International Version, Satan is referred to as the Morning Star but this is the name by which Jesus calls Himself in Revelation 22:16. This is tantamount to making Jesus into the devil. In many places the divinity of Christ is not acknowledged. It is done by the use of well-chosen words, but the result is to make Jesus just another good man. There are plans for a revolutionary new Bible for the coming new international religion. In 1989 the United Nations launched the International Sacred Literature Trust. This project is now headed by the Inter-Religious Federation for World Peace, a front organisation of the Unification church. The group held a symposium on ‘World Scriptures’ organised at the Parliament of the World’s Religions. (Interestingly a parliament is a discussion body or a legislative group. The Bible tells us that the devil will use force to complete his project.) It has been said that the new Bible could appropriately entitled ‘Voices of Spirit and Tradition’.
The Bible will be ‘rewritten’ and re-interpreted. It will be changed maybe not so much in the wording always, but by the use of new and subtle definitions of existing truth, so that it is viewed according to the Plan for the new religion. For example - there is no devil, no fall of man into sin, no sin, no judgement, no Saviour, no dead. |
The origins of the Feminist movement. Spiritualists give pre-eminence to women.
We have already shown that the early spiritualists believed that woman holds the key to changing the world, to bring hope where there was perplexity. The disguise the devil has currently chosen in his conflict with the Creator God is that of a goddess. In a recent church service, with an environmental emphasis, the prayer began ‘O, Green Goddess.’ There is a strongly feminist emphasis in religion today. The goddess or Mother Earth, High Priestess or witch are all names for the female influence in current spirituality. |
